An Apology

Suffice to say that retail can be a somewhat challenging career choice.  But irregardless what occurred today was intolerable AND inexcusable.
Over three years ago when Angela and I began this enterprise we quickly developed clear cut guidelines as how we would handle our business.  An unwritten "Mission Statement" if you will.  And although certain things have been modified for the benefit of the customer, the general principle remains true.  We set out to be the "Neighborhood Bike Shop" our target audience those who we felt (ourselves included) were not best served by the higher end shops.  In accomplishing this, we deal in refurbished parts.  What does that mean?  It means that sometimes we can't serve everyone with whats in stock.  That's whats ordering for.  We don't loose our temper, use profanity or be ANYTHING but helpful. That's why it's called customer service.
It's unfortunate, but sometimes some mechanics just can't handle the inconvenience, or challenge associated with making a part work.  Yes, it's easier to take off the faulty part and slap on a new one.  It's just very contrary to what we are attempting to accomplish here.  As an example, a used derailuer $8.00  a new one $25.00 (and that's our price).  It Ad's up.
But I digress, to the young lady who came in today, who's only crime was needing a seat post that we did not have in stock, if you happen to read this (as she found us via the blog) I do so GREATLY apologize for the behaviour of our ex-employee.  I have no excuse.  I do so wish I had been here to intercede, and make matters right, but was unfortunately detained.  Such treatment is reprehensible, and completely contrary to the principles we hold dear!  There is no room in this shop for such a person. I do hope that you would come visit us again and give us the opportunity to make it right.
And as a side note to all those who sent there well wishes, I do greatly appreciate it.  Turns out it was in fact NOT a mild heart attack.  Turns out I have developed high blood pressure, and am being treated.  Seems that once i quit smoking I developed another bad habit (not to mention an expanding waste line) and even though they may be disguised as a healthy snack, Wheat thins and hummus are anything but.  Unfortunately it took 24 hours of "observation" to come to that conclusion.  However, on the upside Nitroglycerin tablets are the BOMB!
SO, we  will Be back in force tomorrow to get things back up to speed.  Apparently by the looks of things they got in many goodies today, and we'll be pounding them out!
Have a great night!

  1. You know what they say, Steve: reputation is hard to earn but easy to break. Incidents like that are unfortunate, but you have to carry on. This apology is a good start -- a noble one, in fact. Just stick to your "mission statement" and provide even better service to your clients. Remember, customer satisfaction transcends.

  2. Thank you sir. I appreciate the sentiment, and a very wise one it is. And I have to take responsibilty for his actions. Sometimes when you hire someone it is a gamble as they immediately become your representitive. It's unfortunate that not everyone can share the same ideals.
