Woof.
All I can say is...
woof.
I have to thank all the great folks who made me run ragged today! LOVE IT!
The only downside to the busy, is nothing new for the sales floor. ARRGH! Yes the plan for the day was to get out more stock, but not so much.
Sorry,
Thanks to the young lady who came in today and FINALLY gave a home to the vintage Schwinn Typhoon. Nice to know it will be loved.
Also had a visit from the past today! My old boss and friend Rick happened to pop into the shop today to play catch up. Pretty shocking. Haven't seen hide nor hair of him in over 4 years. Guess he heard about us through some folks in his hometown of Saint Pete and was in the area and put two and two together as he lunched at Subway. He's the project manager for the local Habitat For Humanity and apparently their doing a development in the area. Real walk down memory lane!
Thanks to Daryl, our newest friend for his wonderful compliments and desire to "Do business with us, and NO ONE else". Seems our rantings here on these pages remind him of an old friend. The memory is a nice one.
Well, tomorrow is already jam packed with four full re-builds, three re-paints and 8 repairs so you'll forgive me if I sign off early.
See you all then!

Three Generations Of Testosterone
Well today has brought us that much closer to completion of the renovations. Only One thing left and finishing the decorations (which will probably be an ongoing transformation) and we'll be done! My dad came back down to help with the parts rack along with Elijah, who has become quiet involved with his building construction class. It's really heart warming (not to mention relieving) to see him involved and interested in the trade. With a slight bit of trepidation and my fathers guidance he showed us his acumen on the power tools (skill saw and miter saw) and I'm proud to say he still has all his digits! Like any beginner craftsman he has a little work to do on measuring his cuts (it's not me, the wood is warped!) but all in all he did a superb job! And it was a real treat for me to see him working with his grandad. This family has 6 generations (and maybe more) of sawdust in their blood, and it's hard to resist the calling. I will say for him, he discovered the love it on his own. Yes, we're putting in showroom access to our myriad of parts selection for easy pickings. Hope to have the bins filled with re-furbed parts before the middle of next week, then it's on to sorting and categorizing all the little bearings and bolts (YAY! No more fishing for what the customers need!)
Thanks to every one coming in to visit today too! Even though Angie, all the kiddo's and grandad and grandma were there, you could hardly move! Thanks as well for the bevy of repairs as well!. As is now the norm, stuff just doesn't sit on the floor to long to the point of being sold right off the repair stand! Started work on a Raleigh Hybrid and no sooner did i have it stripped down then Steve came in from Bay Shore and put his name on it. Also sold the little 20" 7 speed to Dawn, a returning customer. Our "wish list" is filling up right quick as well! No fears. We hope to fill them within the next two weeks. Did manage to put one out today, though. A SWEET looking old school Trek 800 Antelope MTB, 21 speed. A great light weight ride if you don;t mind the original Bio-Pace chain ring. Takes a little getting used to. After the Raleigh's done I have to sweeties already prepped and ready. A nice looking men's Schwinn Ranger and an even nicer looking Diamondback, later model. Didn't even remember that i had them stashed in the backroom until we "accidentally" cleaned it out today!
So with that, I best be getting to bed! Busy day tomorrow!

Downsizing My Rant's
NOT!
First before I get to enthralled with my latest rant I have to thank my editor, uncle Chip for pointing out my total lack of geological knowledge. Yesterdays blog had me placed in New Port Richey when my family and I were in fact in Tarpon Springs. Heh, would thought the BIG sign that said Tarpon Springs as we entered should have clued me in!
thank you Chip for pointing that out.
OK, on to more tyrannical topics.
For the last few weeks a gentleman has been checking in at the store peddling his office supply wares. Well tenacity is the mother of invention and eventually I gave in and leafing through the catalog tried to come up with something we may need. As it turns out the only thing I really thought I needed was ink cartridges for the copier. As he looked at the machine and some of our recent copies he pointed out it was the toner that needed changing. Now I am NO Einstein when it comes to these things so I acquiesced to his expertise and ordered. After which I was informed that it would arrive today.
It did.
Upon opening the package I was somewhat intimidated by this rather cumbersome contraption but with a determined chin set upon the task of loading it into the copier.
An easier task said then done.
UNFORTUNATELY there were NO directions. Neither on the box, package in the package or on the machine.
Undaunted I called the 1-800 number on the invoice and was treated to some lovely electronic "on hold" musical selections. Eventually the dulcet tones of a human arrived on the other end and was all to happy to inform me that they couldn't help. They could however supply me with the 1-800 number for Hewlett Packard technical support.
Joy.
Well 11 digits later I was whisked away to an exotic foreign shore, and through straining ears tried diligently to interpret the choppy mangled English I'm sure this person has been trying very hard to master but still comes up just a LITTLE bit short. Thankfully I was given three opportunities to try my hand at disiferring three similarly strained accents as they had to transfer me through THREE departments. But as all blessings are, it was short lived, as in the end THEY COULDN'T HELP!
GOODY!
I mean I would have only otherwise wasted this blissful 45 minutes on worthless, meaningless efforts, such as WORK! I couldn't think of a better way to spend my afternoon.
As much as I was enjoying all this phone time, though I opted to re-wrap the high-tech plastic back in its myriad of wrappings and packages and call the first company and tell them just where they could "Ship It".
ANYWAY!
Managed to put out four newbies today! YAY!! One sold a few minutes after going out, though. BUT we're getting back up to snuff. Will be doing the same mad push tomorrow as I have a Trek 800 stripped and cleaned and ready for re-build first thing! So keep an eye on these pages and I'll catch ya in the morn!

You Can Get Your Kicks, On Route 66!!
Seriously.
I'm not trying to date myself (but I do think the show was AWESOME!) but we live on Route 66. PSTA bus route 66. And this past Sunday, family day in an effort to find something fun and different (that did not require an enormous amount of walking as momma is getting bigger by the minute) I researched things to do and as much as I have been yearning to hit a good flea market (redneck; GUILTY!) but the amount of time and transfers to get there would probably have put momma into early delivery, SO in the end we opted to take the 66 all the way to it's Northern end where it dumps out in New Port Richey at the Sponge Docks. I'd gone there once before for a bike show, but this time we took in the local Chotsky shops, had an authentic Greek lunch (of sorts, the younger ones opting for the relative familiarity of chicken fingers with fries) only having two major incidences of drink spillage (never deposit your ice tea in front of a spirited 18 month old with a penchant for creative uses of menus). I'll give our hostesses much credit for their patience and understanding in quickly cleaning it up, insisting not to worry about it. After walking off lunch and sitting for some espresso, we boarded the "CruiseO-Rama" and took a 3 hour tour. A Dolphin watch culminating in a half our layaway on a secluded beach head for some shell searching, and unexpected wading. Surprisingly everyone remembered their shoes. Even more surprising is my fears were unfounded and none of the kids went over board...as much as Owen and Izzy tried.
All and all an excellent time.
On to work.
OK, I just have to apologize for the total lack of stock. Let that be said. Not that it's a bad thing but as soon as I put out anything it's gone. The repairs are coming in unabated (thanks SO MUCH for the faith) but I work a little later tonight to put them all to bed and have nothing in the waiting room for the AM, so i am TOTALLY focused on getting out some goodies tomorrow! I'd like to thank all the folks for coming in and saying such wonderful things today. Tom picked up the Schwinn Cross Cut on a long term rental and put in an order for his lovely wife. Jennifer came in with her beautiful young daughter to up size her to a 20" upon the referral from a wonderful soul at the playground. You KNOW you're hip when they're talking about you on the playground!
Well as you can tell from my ramblings I need to get some down time so I can gear up for a BIG push!
I wish you all a good evening and feel free to check out pics below of our excursion!

OK, so who put the time machine on fast forward?
It's SATURDAY?
Where the heck did the week go?
Been like crazy busy this past week and I'd like to thank all the folks for coming in and making it an AWESOME one! Yes, I know, I say that allot, but I really do mean it. With the renovations we did the previous week we got so far behind on building and repairs but everyone coming in has been ULTRA understanding and respectable. Even when they had to wait longer then usual to get their re-pairs back!
I'll lay money down on 100 to one odds that we have the BEST customers! Hands DOWN!
Yesterday saw allot of the newly built beauties go out the door, leaving us a little sparse for Saturday, I'm sorry to say. Thanks to Bill, for his tenacity as he finally came in at the right time and grabbed up the men's Banger we had put out the night before. He should have added fun on his vacation now. Thanks to Sam for wheeling and dealing and getting on the "Panama Jack" cruiser! And we got a SA-NICE Schwinn "Old School" hybrid in swap. He should be able to slow down and cruise with his lady love now. Megan, also a wheeler-dealer, took off with the 24" MTB for her son and we got a couple more bangers in it's stead. Janice is a woman who knows what she wants as she saw the Mongoose BMX, asked how much and dropped it on the counter (wow! Weird to be able to say "counter" around here) I'm sure her nephew will love it! Smith was another sure minded fellow, as he was swooned by the red Next BMX we had in the window and knew he had to process it! Which, as I said leaves us sparse. But that's OK! We have LOTS to build and will be hopefully pounding them out today! Young Kaleb is on deck and has already done his awesome clean on the shop and getting to hunker down on some BMX'ers so's the old man can get some big bikes done and up!
Managed to get only one done yesterday, amongst the hustle and bustle and she's a PEACH! Well...at least now she is! Elijah picked this up from one of our other bike shop friends. he had written it off as a lost cause, and he always saves his "left overs" for us. So sweet! In the end, given how much work it ended up needing, I probably should have listened to the "lost cause" message. BUT, the gauntlet had been cast down and i could not pass up the challenge! It's a lightweight, cro-moly Schwinn "Clear Creek" and after an EXTENSIVE re-build she's ready. Believe me when I say, I took her out for a morning ride today....SWEET! I'm not that much of a MTB Man any more, but this girl ROARED up the local hill (it's Florida...we only have like, three hills in the whole state and their within 2 square miles of here)!
well with that, I'd best get my tucas to work!
Hope to see ya'll soon

In His Off Season....
WOW! Thanks to all for another satisfyingly BUSY day! Only managed to get one new one out though as I was wrapped up in re-pairs again! But that's NO problemo! Love it when you all give purpose to my otherwise meaningless life! And a special thanks to all the great folks coming in and brightening my day not to mention re-enforcing my belief that there is still allot of good in this world. A wonderful lady came in, after finding out that some scumbag had stolen the beloved bicycle of her young neighbor she came down to buy him a replacement on her own dime! VERY sweet! The Earth needs more folks like her. Thanks to the fine gent bearing gifts, upon bringing in a wheel for re-pair he responded to my posted plea for donations of bike pictures to brighten up our barren walls with a small collection of photographs from the bike mounted soldiers from WW! They were quickly framed and given a prime viewing spot on our ever expanding collections of photos and chotzskys! Come in and check out the tin toy elephant on a bike and Elliot and E.T on his BMX. MINT ON CARD!!
And got a REAL treat as on hiatus from his big 24 hour a year job, the MAN himself winged all the way down from the North Pole to visit US when he heard we dealt in used parts! Seems he's pimpin' out his sleigh and needy a few goodies for upgrades! YEP, Santa Clause himself popped in for a Merry Visit and a hearty Ho, Ho, Ho !! had a great chat and he promised I've been a VERY good boy this year!
Don't believe me?!?! Well in an unprecedented move he allowed me to take a rare picture, an honor only bestowed on a scant view lucky ones!
Bet you believe in him now, hunh?
And he said enough with the cheesy store bought cookies.
Think "Toll house".
Well The gem finished up today is a super clean "DAILY BANGER SPECIAL", 18 speeds of pure re-furbished power! Managed to get the old school Schwinn Clear Creek about 70% done and will finish up in the am.
Speaking of which, I'm pooped.
Good night!

Just A Thought.....
It's true that there are times when perhaps the words you are saying, although clear and concise to your own mind are perhaps lost on others. But today I had difficulty explaining to a particular individual what constitutes a "flat" tire. Or in the case of a bicycle a flat "TUBE". Suffice to say that regardless of WHEN the tube is purchased if you ride over a nail, or thorn, or piece of glass and it punctures said tire (especially when it's as bald as your uncle Mortie, and you decided to save a few bucks and NOT replace it at the advice of your mechanic) a scant 2 hours after you leave the shop? It does NOT constitute a defective tube. Sadly, I could not get this across and instead at their insistence "just put air back in it"
Because obviously I know nothing and I must be an idiot NOT to realize that placing air Back into a tube with a hole in it will magically seal the puncture.
Silly me.
(was that a wee bit TOO sarcastic?)
ANYWAY!
Managed to put out two more gems today amidst all the new re-pairs coming in (THANKS so much for all the trust and work!) So check 'em out! Now I gotta go home and assemble Miranda's crib...although I don't yet know where shes going to be put.
perhaps the closet....

Shivery Is Not Dead, It Merely Remains Dormant Until Times of Battle.
My Mother had a wonderful saying that I first heard at a tender young age but have retained as a strong life lesson, "Only family F%&!s with family!"
No truer words were ever spoken.
Well this sentiment was made blatently clear Monday afternoon. For the last couple of years as the little guys walk home from school there is another brood of kids that walk the same route, and apparently the back and forth of name calling, stick throwing and out and out brawls has caused us to frequently have interventions, school meetings, laborious lectures, and constant monitoring. As a result all has been quiet on the western front.
Until Monday.
Returning from school, they apparently had a run in, one that left little Rozy in tears at the names and insults they were tossing across the street. They all came up to the shop to inform me of the injustice.
As anyone who has read my blog will know, our 9 year old, Owen is....high spirited, but with a VERY big heart and a strong sense of right and wrong. He also would have made an EXCELLENT Spartan warrior. As I crouched comforting Rozy he stomped passed me with great purpose and I was vaugley aware of him rusteling through my tool chest in the back, and was only partially aware of him stalking past me to exit the door. It was as he passed the threshold that I glanced up and noticed he was holding something quite large in a tightly clenched fist. It was this little peace maker...
Obviously I quickly intercepted his departure, and questioned his motives. His response through clenched teeth made his intentions VERY clear.
"NO ONE makes my baby sister cry!"
Now, am I bad... am I wrong to feel a swell of pride at this?
Now obviously I retrieved the pry bar and lectures him on restraint but it's times like this I am reminded that even though they may constantly engage in minute spats, and cantankerous needling I need NEVER worry about the strong family bond these children have for one another.
My mothers edict remains strong and true!
On to work.
Finally have gotten back into the swing of re-builds! After getting caught up with repairs (we Thank you all so VERY much for your continued patronage and trust) as several more came in in the last two days. Put out two more yesterday with a third three quarters the way done in my rack. Another sweet BMX, this years model Mongoose Hoop 'D, an unwanted Christmas gift, and a real trick "Panama Jack" cruiser, complete with new tires! SWEET!
So it is with that that I jump back to work and get more goodies out!
See ya'll real soon!

OK KIDDIES! Time For Another Old Fart Rant!!!
Perhaps is just that some folks need to feel an unwarranted sense of importance. Or they have fallen prey to their own propaganda, or maybe they just weren't breast fed as a baby but the utterly unnecessary bureaucracy and red tape of some organizations is STAGGERING!!!
Case in point. In the twilight of our remodeling i found my self in need of a quantity of storage bins. Heavy duty plastic warehouse storage bins. Thanks to our buddy Chip we obtained about a dozen 16X10X6 bins that are PERFECT for our needs. However, I needed more. So perusing through the Internet I came across a used warehouse supply in upstate New York (can't find any locally) that offered the exact same bin. PERFECT!
Well here's where it gets frustrating!
After realizing the web site has no prices I am directed to ask for a quote. Which doesn't work. So I call the number. Go through the obligatory phone mail transfer to be placed on hold by an "executive assistant". then I get John, tell him the item I'm interested in, he asks the CID # . CID? There is NO number under the item. He takes down my info and says "Do you want me to email or fax you a quote? Whats wrong with just telling me? ANYWAY! I say e-mail, and wait. 3 hours later the quote comes in.
5 PAGES!?!
OK!
Well, as it turns out my computer cannot translate the JPEG!!
After 15 minutes of frustration I revert to the old stand by. CALL!
The obligatory transfer.
On hold.
Hung up on.
Call back.
Obligatory transfer(s).
On Hold.
Executive assistant.
STOP!!!! I am aging rapidly at this point!
John is not available, may we FAX you the quote?
How 'bout this LADY?! Why not just TELL me how much the FRICKIN' THINGS COST!?!?!
There's a pause as Denise seems stumped. Confused, almost flustered by this COMPLETELY alien proposal. I hear the frantic rustling of pages accompanied by laborious annoyed breathing.
After what seemed an eternal pause she uttered the simple phrase "They're $5,99 a piece"
Wow. Almost 4 hours of effort for 8 syllables.
I honestly think I heard her brain start to melt when I asked "how much is shipping?"
I'll have to call John about that.
PERFECT!

Happiness Is A Full Slatwall
Wow.
What a long way we've come. It's been almost 4 years since we started this little "part time job until times get better". And as I pause briefly in my day with a a sense of pride (and a tad bit arrogance) admiring our full slat wall and can't help but think to myself we did what they say can't be done. And when I say WE I am not referring to just Angi and myself but EVERYONE who has chosen to come in and visit us instead of the corporate shops and box stores, so I extend to you all a very heartfelt "Thank You"! from the squishiest part of my heart!
The BIG order came in today and I had to rearrange my day to clean off the wall and stock it all. But it was a blessing of a chore. When we first started we said we didn't want to deal with new parts at all, but that quickly became apparent that that was an impractical approach, if for nothing else but safety's sake! And as time moved forward and many folks made many, many requests we came to realize we owed it to them to stock at least some of what they wanted at a price that they could deal with. It's a real treat that in not being greedy some of our prices even beat Wal-mart! (hee hee)
So I give you some pics of the overflowing booty of goodies!
and also before I forget...
We're putting a call out for anyone who has in their family photo albums ANY picture from ANY era that has candid or even posed shots of folks riding bikes, or standing with them or even any with them in the background. We are gearing up to decorate the showroom walls with all things bicycles! Have some of our own stuff coming in, but would LOVE to feature yours! Especially anyone reading from other countries! That'd be a HOOT! So please send 'em to the shop!

Kid's Say the Darndest Things! or (If She Wasn't So Cute.....!)
Thanks for a GREAT Saturday! With the shop upgrades coming to an end we turned our focus to the re-pairs that have been piling up all week long! And an ENORMOUS THANK YOU to all the folks for being SO VERY, VERY understanding about the delays!! Even Chris who I mistakenly forgot to call as he works nights and came in early to pick up a bike that I had not finished! ARRGH! But he was a perfect gentleman and gave no worries!
Ended up selling out of the few remaining adult bikes we had and put a SERIOUS dent in the BMX'ers as well. Had a bit of a bidding war going on in the afternoon on the Redline, and Hyper too!
All is finished except the gate separating the re-pairs and the parts bins. Hope to have those done the first of the week, but for the next couple of days will be focused on BUILDING! Have SO MUCH stuff to work with!
Cute story.
After work Saturday after taking my hose down, sat on the couch with angi, as we recapped our day's activities, and as the children meandered and played, Izzy (who is FINALLY starting to say a few words) sat down between us and layed across Mommas belly, to which Miranda (yep we're back to that name) kicked her. Izzy sat straight up looked at momma and asked "baby"? Momma smiled and said yes. Izzy then turned to me, looked at my belly, patted it and asked "baby"?
As I said, she's lucky shes so cute.

"It's been a LONG time since I used THAT group of muscles!
ow.
Well, after spending the last five years building bikes for a living I got to stretch my "Handyman" muscles again. And it is with no mere sense of nostalgia and pride that I say...
I don't miss it.
In the least.
I have become complacent in my easy paced life of bike building while remaining in a relatively cloistered 10 square feet of space with the luxury of movies on demand.
BUT! The shop looks SPANKIN'! I must thank the following for their help and involvement in the whole journey. First to Angie for her input, holding down the home fires and most of all for being understanding and forgiving in allowing me to keep working way past midnight! To my dad for coming up with the designs (which I only altered slightly) and for toting my butt around to pick up all the materials. (as well as allowing me to spring for a nice sit down lunch (which i realized was VERY hard for him to not grab the check) and having a nice walk down memory lane talk). And to my step-mother Anita for LETTING my dad come out and play for a day. To Elijah and Kaleb for helping their old man out on the build, and actually working without complaint. Also thanks to the "Habitat for Humanity" store for being their with used building supplies! Hey we RE-Cycle too! That's right, the whole project was about 74% recycled material! And thanks to Terry for scrounging me some choice refurbed lumber and for hauling away ALOT of scrap!
We are ALMOST done! Have only a couple more things to build out but that will have to wait as tomorrow I HAVE to catch up on all the re-pairs piling up, not to mention we have sold out of ALL adult bikes! ARRGH!!! Not that I don't have a MOUNTAIN of material to pick from! Bought 23 today alone! SO it'll be another humdinger of a day tomorrow, I betcha!
All right, I best meander on, but will see ya'll tomorrow!
NIGHT!

YO! GO Mo Joes!!!!
Anyone watching Craigslist or checking into the store may have realized that we haven't put out anything new in a few days. Have no fear though, we have been BUSY! We have plenty to work on bike wise, but right now we are concentrating on the shop upgrades!
DATELINE: UPDATE!
1) Shop has been FULLY repainted, as evident from the before and after pic's below. Took me THREE coats on the walls to cover up all the tire marks and smudgy mechanics hand prints.
2) Placed our order for a multitude of new merchandise (yes I used the "N" word!) But we get requests every day for new tires, seat, locks and lights and so forth so we went whole hog on ya!
3) Should have credit card equipment by early next week!
4) Going out today with Dad to pick up material for counters and such and hopefully start building this afternoon!
So as much as a surprise to me as I am sure it is to you, everything going according to plan!
NOW! I have to relate this little tale to you because not much in life surprises me anymore, and more so very little impresses! But, a couple weeks back we received a menu/flyer from a recently opened "Family Dinning" restaurant. Now we get things like this from time to time, however I was tickled by the name of the place "Mo Joes" (relating of course to the Power Puff Girls arch nemesis, "MoJo Jo-Jo", so I put it neatly with my China One menu. A few days later as lunch rolled around and I felt to lazy to walk to one of the restaurants in the plaza, I figured I'd try out Mo Joes. It's a real Burger and sandwich joint with a LOT of choices! I ended up ordering Angi and I the "Avocado Movado" , REAL bread with REAL chicken breasts, blackened with tomatoes avocado and bacon with ranch dressing. The awesome part was as the ingredients were fresh you could actually TASTE them!! Now full in the thralls of pure lust we ordered again the next day! JUST as good!
Now here's the impressive mind blowing part. the next day the OWNER comes to our shop to introduce herself, find out about OUR shop and thank us for our business!
Knock me over with a feather! I haven't seen that kind of GENUINE personalized effort to promote once business since...well I don't know when! But instantly she made me feel....REAL! All to often I'll go to a coffee shop, or to pay a bill, or have a sit down meal and the people are so stale and robotic. It's you and them. May as well be ordering online! But this woman, I felt as if I'd walked into her home, she greeted me warmly and I sat down to have a home cooked meal at HER dinner table! It was THAT real!
OK, OK I'll stop gushing. But you HAVE to try them out at least once! They're at 2169 North Hercules, Clearwater, FL 33765 (727) 733-0101. Tell them RE-Cycle sent you!
